Non-Gardening

I am a terrible gardener and quite frankly, I do not derive a great amount of pleasure from digging in the dirt. But I usually plant a small garden. I like the ‘idea’ of having a garden and watching the little plants sprout food that we can use during our summer cooking 🙂

DSC00748I want my boys to see that food grows in the ground and know that if they ever wanted (or needed) to grow their own food, they could. They will have learned it from their mother – The Non-Gardener. There are a certain number of things (there’s an actual list) I’d like the boys to know how to do before they leave home. They don’t have to be ‘experts’ – just know the possibilities.

I was really hoping one of the boys would take an interest in my weed excavation and claim a plot of their own – and thank goodness at least one did!

There are peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and cilantro. There are a few rows of carrots and snap peas sowed into the ground. There are happy little marigolds and one happy, little suburban gardener.
