I was made aware that the Monmouth County SPCA was in need of a bunch of kids to help them test service dogs for use in schools and nursing homes. The good news was that I knew just where to find kids that are not in school during those hours – or ever 😉
As part of the service dog testing, the doggies needed to be able to maintain their composure around a group of children, children making noise, people using medical equipment like walkers and crutches and generally remain comfortable in the group we formed. 2 dogs passed, and 2 get a chance to come back again.
The kids informed me that it was not as ‘fun’ as they had hoped. But they were interested in the process, enjoyed the dogs and I reminded them that they had been part of a good deed 🙂
“You think those dogs will not be in heaven!
I tell you they will be there long before any of us.”
― Robert Louis Stevenson
I so wish we could have done this. It sounded so awesome. Hopefully we will be able to make it next time!
